For years, I had a love-hate relationship with vegetable gardening. I loved the idea of growing my own food, but hated how confusing it could be. I feel like I had taken food-supply for granted until COVID-19. Then, the panic buying and the empty shops revealed to me how precious fresh food is and how easily the supply chain could be disrupted. Motivated by this revelation, I headed back to my veggie patch with renewed purpose.
I realised that growing herbs and vegetables is the very best place to start learning to garden. Unlike trees, herbs and vegetables will only be in the ground for a season or two, so you can’t make long term mistakes. But knowing what to plant where, how long it takes until harvest, or what it should be companion planted with? There was just so much to remember! I knew I couldn’t be alone in wishing for simple, straight forward advice that was easy to access....and from these seeds of thoughts Little Farm Plot grew.
By marrying modern technology with style from days gone by, I created garden markers that incorporate growing guides in order to increase your success. Not sure when, or where, to plant? Not sure how long until harvest? QR codes cleverly deliver the information.
I now have a love-love relationship with my garden. Being outside in my garden is a part of my daily rhythm. The benefits are many. Gardening connects me to the land and brings a deep sense of gratitude for the beautiful world we live in. I have never felt more connected to the seasons and weather. I appreciate all the produce I harvest, and that respect has led to less food waste. Growing food at home is the best thing we can do for our planet. Our home-grown food can be pesticide free, has zero food miles, the scraps can be converted to compost and feed our soil so we send less waste to landfill, we can share our produce with neighbours and build community. Afterall, from little things big things grow.
The process of growing my own food is so deeply rewarding that is has become my mission to help others experience the same joy. I know my guides are the support that new gardeners need to identify plants, and enable them to establish edible gardens. I believe everyone can grow something, even a few pots of herbs on a balcony, and we can all experience the benefits of growing our own food.
Let me support you on your journey to greater self-sufficiency.
